Located in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Mombo Camp is one of Botswana’s most famous lodges, offering a fantastic safari experience and superb hospitality. The Mombo Concession, home to both Mombo and Little Mombo, sits on the Northern tip of Chiefs Island within the Moremi Game Reserve.
Referred to as the predator capital of Africa, lilystrewn flood plains and palm-fringed islands punctuate the crystal clear waters of the Okavango
and attract a remarkable diversity of wildlife. Game viewing here is some of Africa’s finest – throughout the year – and leopard and lion viewing, in particular, is superb.
There are nine tents at Mombo and three at Little Mombo. Shaded by trees, each tent has views over flood plains, teeming with game. The tented suites are designed in light of the classic camps of the ‘30s and with the express intention of blending into the environment and keeping the natural experience at the forefront. The camp has great character instilled by colonial campaign furniture meets ‘African eclectic’ and is luxuriously comfortable.
Little Mombo is all about privacy and whilst designed in the same style, each suite has a private sala and the little camp has all of its own facilities, including another plunge pool, lounge, bar and restaurant.
Tents and living areas are interconnected by raised walkways – high enough for game to pass underneath – and all lounge and dining areas are open to the wonderful views across the Delta. Craig’s cuisine is fabulous and a real highlight and can be earned by a few hours’ walking safari out in the bush. There is a plunge pool removed a little way from the lounge area where guests can cool off.
Mombo and Little Mombo provide the very best classic safari in the Delta and is a perfectly balanced and incredibly rich experience which will last in the memory forever.
